| The need for expansion of Econlockhatchee Trail was recognized a number of years ago in the Orange County Transportation Planning Process. The main objective of this project is to improve traffic operations and drainage conditions in the immediate area as well as providing much needed pedestrian and bicycle facilities. On February 22, 2005 the Orange County Board of County Commissioners approved the Preferred Improvement Concept recommended in the RCA study for Econlockhatchee Trail. The project is now in the final design phase. This final design process is scheduled to be complete by the end of 2009 (see schedule). Following design, the right-of-way acquisition phase of the project is anticipated to take 18 to 24 months. Construction will be completed in two phases. The first phase, from north of SR 408 to south of Colonial Drive (SR 50) is expected to be complete at the end of 2013 and the southern phase, from south of Lake Underhill Road to north of SR 408 is expected to be complete by the end of 2015. |
